1. Do you do custom work?
At this time, I do not do custom work. If you are looking for something in particular i.e. style or colour, please let me know. If it doesn’t seem like a stretch for me, I can sometimes paint something I have in stock (or look for something) that meets your wish-list. I give you the option to buy first and if you like it, great, if not, that’s fine too! It’s a win-win situation!
2. What type of paint do you use?
I always use Sherwin Williams paint and mix my own chalk paint with it. Chalk paint has gained quite a bit of popularity because of its ease of use. With chalk paint you are not required to sand off the original finish before painting and it distresses quite easily. While you do not have to sand prior to painting, I assure you that I still do. It takes way more time, but I want to make sure that the paint stays on no matter what.
3. How do you finish your pieces?
There are a multitude of products out there to seal paint and stain. I’ve used wax, polyacrylic, wipe-on polyurethane and for me the best finish by far is any General Finishes product. It goes on well and gives rock-hard protection to any piece. It costs more but I believe that this is the finishing touch that should not be skimped on.
4. Where do you buy your pieces?
90% of the time, my furniture comes from Kijiji.
5. Do you deliver?
Yes, I can deliver within the Ottawa-Gatineau area.
6. Do you spray paint your furniture?
I may use a can of spray paint to update knobs, pulls or legs on furniture but everything else is hand painted and I don’t ever want to change that. I love the character that hand painting creates. While my finished products are near perfection (can’t help it I’m a perfect perfectionist) they still have some personal touches that only a brush stroke can give. There are several companies out there that do offer the perfection of sprayed furniture and I’d be happy to provide names if that’s what you’re looking for but if you buy from me, you’re looking for that uniqueness that only a paint and brush can give. 🙂
